Oscar winner Taika Waititi says MacBooks take 'horrendous' keyboards

The Jojo Rabbit filmmaker used his recent Oscar win to tackle an important tech-related issue

Taika Waititi has some words for Apple tree's MacBook keyboard.

Hot off his Oscar win for Best Adapted Screenplay forJojo Rabbit, the pic's author-managing director-producer-star was asked near what he'd like to come across the Writers Lodge of America (WGA) address in their adjacent round of talks with producers.

"Apple needs to set those keyboards. They are incommunicable to write on," Waititi responded with piffling hesitation. "They've gotten worse — makes me want to go back to PCs, because [with] PC keyboards, the bounceback for your fingers is style improve […] Those Apple keyboards are horrendous."

Waititi too mentioned that he has some shoulder and tendon issues that make writing with the MacBook hard. "We've only gotta set up those keyboards. The WGA needs to stride in and actually practice something," Waititi concluded.

In addition to being a prolific managing director, Waititi often pens the scripts for his films, so he certainly has feel with writing for prolonged periods of time.

That said, he undoubtedly wasn't being entirely serious in blasting Apple, given his reputation for irreverence. Waititi really has a working relationship with Apple tree, as he's attached to write and direct the pilot of the tech giant's Apple tree TV+ adaptation of Terry Gilliam's Time Bandits. Further, he was clearly — at least in part — trying to humourously dodge a politically-charged question almost the WGA.

Nonetheless, Waititi's comments echo common criticism of the MacBook keyboard. For years, the Apple tree laptops used the 'butterfly' keyboard, which have frequently been unresponsive due to issues like stuck debris and key cap problems. The company's latest MacBook Pro that released concluding holiday features the more than standard scissor switch keyboard, although this doesn't help people with older models.
